After two years' service in the Army, I returned to Philadelphia to practice law, working for two lawyers. My employers represented many small businesses in all of their matters. I was a jack-of-all-trades in the beginning—my work entailed collecting past due debts, commercial and personal injury litigation, government contract work, estate administration, and estate planning. Some of our clients went from privately owned to public companies, giving me the opportunity to prepare prospectuses that had to be approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission. We merged with another firm, and after a period of time, I was elected as the managing partner. Thereafter, I served as “Of Counsel” to two firms before opting to be a sole practitioner.
