About Me

For personal attention and service, depend on Robert S. Cohen. I enjoy helping my clients find answers to their questions—the journey continues to be most satisfying.

Meet Robert S. Cohen

I was born and raised in Philadelphia. I am a product of the public school system where, as a teenager, I decided to become an attorney. I graduated from The College of the University of Pennsylvania and received my law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

Professional History

After two years' service in the Army, I returned to Philadelphia to practice law, working for two lawyers. My employers represented many small businesses in all of their matters. I was a jack-of-all-trades in the beginning—my work entailed collecting past due debts, commercial and personal injury litigation, government contract work, estate administration, and estate planning. Some of our clients went from privately owned to public companies, giving me the opportunity to prepare prospectuses that had to be approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission. We merged with another firm, and after a period of time, I was elected as the managing partner. Thereafter, I served as “Of Counsel” to two firms before opting to be a sole practitioner.

Community Focus

I have represented civic associations in zoning matters in Philadelphia. I served as counsel to my synagogue for 27 years. During that period, I also served as its treasurer for a total of seven years. I was appointed to serve as a member of a Disciplinary Board Hearing Committee, serving in that capacity for seven-and-a-half years, including three years as its chairman. I have also been active in the Philadelphia Bar Association, particularly in the area of the delivery of legal services.

Family Life

My wife, Ruth, is a retired social worker who worked with children, parents, and teachers for 30 years. Our three children are grown with their own families.
